Some very famous speeches which say so much, in so little.
- Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few (W. Churchill)
- Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country (JF Kennedy)
- I have a dream (M Luther King Jr)
- The only thing we have to fear is fear itself ((FD Roosevelt)
Churchill referred to Britain destroying the Nazi invasion threat and Kennedy wanted to prepare Americans for a new era. Martin Luther King rallied his followers and confronted his opponents, for conditions that are considered normal today and finally Roosevelt, sought to stir America facing its greatest economic recession.
Speeches assure, comfort, inspire, remind, or encourage certain groups of people for whatever they are facing, the outstanding speeches are those which have the greatest relevance and effect on the people they are intended for.
The greatest speech ever?
When Jesus said on the cross, “It is finished!” (John 19 v 30). Because it’s eternally relevant, it assures, comforts, inspires, reminds and encourages Christians that by finishing His mission, Jesus allowed us to have “every spiritual blessing in Christ” (Ephesians 1 v 3).
With all blessings
Tony
