Recently as the church treasurer, I was challenged, when I came across 2 church transactions.
One was an unexpected income whilst the other was a higher-than-expected cost and here’s where the challenge arises! How to present this?
Do I say? Good news! We have had almost £400 given unexpectedly and then follow that by saying but the bad news is virtually all of it has been taken up by a higher-than-expected cost? Alternatively, should I say? Well, I have had a much higher bill than expected but the great news is that God has provided the church with an unanticipated income that covers all of the bill.
The point is that the first description takes us up but then puts the receiver on a complete downer, whilst the second statement starts with anticipation of better news which on completion leaves everyone upbeat saying Praise God!
A case of, is the glass half full or half empty? Followed by how do we see things?
I know that I have often forgotten the following answer that has happened to me so many times.
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4 v 19).
With this always in mind, the second description should always apply to our needs!
With all blessings
Tony
